Question and Answer
On this page you can find more info about Scribble:
In general
What is Scribble?
Scribble is a website that allow you to sign documents electronically (customers, private person, ...).
Everyone, who lets sign documents today and uses mail, post or fax, can use Scribble.
Who can use Scribble ?
Everyone who needs a signature of a 3th party or company can use the Scribble services.
It is not longer necessary to send or receive letters or faxes. With Scribble, the 3th party can immediately open, save, print and sign digitally with the eID card, the document (order, price-request, lease, sales contract, ....) in a secure environment.
The signed document is automatically stored in your account. Of course YOU can also sign the document.
What do I (or the 3th party) need to use Scribble ?
You only need Internet Explorer version 7 or FireFox 2.x or Chrome 4.x of Safari 4.x. The Flash v.10 is necessary to upload the document.
Do you want to sign documents electronically, an eID cardreader is necessary. You can buy this in different stores (or if you have a PLUS or BASIC rateplan you receive one free)!.
To sign a document
Which documents can be signed ?
You can only upload and sign PDF documents. The Portable Document Format or PDF, is since about 1993 a de facto standard for exchanging electronic documents and forms, which should be reproduced in their original form.
One advantage of a PDF file is that, unlike say a Word-document, it will look the same on any printer. Also a PDF can be viewed and/or edited on all platforms; it is not platform dependent.
Anyone can read a PDF document because the program needed for this, Acrobat Reader, can be used completely free. This program is available on almost any computer so your client will be able to open the document without any problems.
An aditional advantage is that the electronic signature is incorporated in the PDF document in Acrobat Reader and you can immediately check who has signed the document (see furher below).
I edit my requests in Word, Excel (or an other program), how do I make a PDF-file ?
If you already generate PDF documents through a PDF printer program, you do not have to do anything. You upload the generated PDF document and it appears in Scribble.
If you do not have a PDF printer programma, you can use the link below to install for free a program on your PC So you can 'print' a PDF document from any application (Word, Excel, ...). Then you load the document into your Scribble account and you send the unique link to the 3th party.
My 3th party does not have an eID cardreader or he does not want to use it. What then ?
The advantage of Scribble is, it can be used even if the 3th party does not have an eID card (or does not want to use it).
The 3th party can always open, save, print the document in a secure environment, which anyway is more secure than sending the document in a mail as attachment.
If the 3th party does not have an eID card (or card reader) or he does not want to sign the document electronically, he can still print it, sign it manually and return it by fax, mail or post.
Is it possible to sign a document at several places ?
When a person signs the document elektronically, it is signed on all pages. It is of no use that the person signs the document a second time.
Where can I find the signatures in the document ?
When the first person signs, a new page with the electronic signature is added at the back of the document. If then several persons sign, their electronic signature is added to this page. Below you find an example:
Can different persons sign the same document ?
Yes, in the FREE and BASIC rateplan a document can uptain up to 2 signatures, the PLUS rateplan can uptain up to 999 signatures.
The only thing you have to do is send the unique link to those persons who have to sign the document. The order of signing is of no importance. Only one version of the extra page is available (the 'last one') . If one person has already signed, the signature of the second and following persons is added to the first signature. You find an example below:
How do I know the document is properly signed ?
Open the document, go to the last page. You find all the signatures of all the persons, who signed the document, for example:
Extra to the signature you find the name of the person, who signed it, his National Register Number and the time of signing. If you click on the signature you receive a message:
Check if you receive next message: The PDF is not edited, since the document has been signed. If you receive this message, you can be sure that he document, after signing, is not changed.
You can also open Properties of signatures and you receive a window:
Here you find the time of signing. It is the time when the document is signed on the servers of Betrust.
Security
Are my documents stored safely ?
Security is the most important thing at Scribble. To ensure the safety of your data, the following is applied:
- Each document is stored encrypted in our database. This means that no one can read the content of the document. Only when you or the 3the party upload the document, it is decrypted.
- All communication between you or a 3th party, and the Scribble website is in a secure environment (HTTPS/SSL). This means that no one can see the content of the document, when it is sended between our server and your computer (or the computer of the 3th party). The security is much higher than sending the document by email.
- The 3th party can only sign digitally the version of the document which you UPLOADED in Scribble. There is no possibility that the 3th party modifies the content of the document.
- All documents are saved in different databases on different servers. This prevents the lost of documents if a server fails.
- All documents are BACKED UP daily (hot backup) to anotherlocation so the risk of loss is minimal.
Which date are sent over the Internet ?
Only the (signed) document and the so-called Public Key of the identity card is sent through a secure line (which is already safe). The PINcode and the personal data stored on the eID card (adres, city, ...) are never sent to the Scribble server.
Where are my documents stored ?
